On April 26, I had the pleasure of attending the Efma-Accenture Innovation in Insurance Awards, held in London, England. The awards, which began in 2016, celebrate and promote cutting-edge innovation in the insurance industry. In total, we received 219 innovations from 144 companies spanning 38 countries – the awards had impressive ‘reach’! The five winners were selected through a rigorous judging and voting process, an Efma Innovation Committee selected the nominees, the winners were then selected by 2,000 voters accounting for 50% of the final result, and the remaining 50% by a dedicated jury of 19 independent insurance professionals.
Global Innovator: Generali was declared this year’s Global Innovator of the Year, with Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co and AXA Group winning second and third place respectively.
Generali submitted five innovative solutions, which combined really impressed the jury. However, as presented on the day by Moshe Tamir, Generali’s Global Head of Digital Transformation, its innovation strategy is so much broader. It combines inside-out and outside-in innovation approaches, partnerships like the one it has with Vitality in the health arena, and extends to the work it is increasingly doing with both fintechs and insurtechs. Innovations submitted include:
Real-time coaching: interactive driving experience to prevent accidents
An innovative car insurance product featuring an in-car device providing the driver with real-time coaching. Drivers can improve their driving style and save on their car insurance.
Generali Sei a Casa IN TOUCH
A smart, simple and fast integrated home insurance solution for staying connected with what you love most.
SPRINT – distema preventivatori in tasca
SPRINT – an innovative digital tool that helps insurance advisors respond quickly and clearly to customer needs.
Più Generali. Più mi proteggo, più mi premio
Più Generali is an insurance community that rewards clients’ insurance behaviours and provides exclusive opportunities to improve their lifestyle.
Probably the most impressive innovation of this list, this is a global cloud-based digital marketing platform that is progressively being deployed to its 70,000 agents, and leverages the sheer size of Generali’s agent salesforce to create impressive visibility on search engines, while offering an attractive set of tools for agents to become digital marketing agents.
I offer my enthusiastic congratulations to the entire Generali team, and all of the nominees.
My next post will highlight winners in four categories: Best Disrupted Product or Service, Customer Experience and Engagement, Intelligent Automation, and Connected Insurance & Ecosystems.
